As is typical with all my posts, please be aware there are possible spoilers.
The trailer(s) that I watched for this movie are below:
Kong is a fun popcorn movie with lots of action and a easy to follow storyline, but unfortunately that is about as far as this movie goes. As far as King Kong movies go, I would say this is probably one of the better ones that I have scene. Much better then the Peter Jackson version given to us in 2005 in my opinion. Where the Jackson movie tended to bog down, Skull Island feels as though the story is moving somewhere, aside from one sequence.
The trailer gives away the basic plot and nothing really new is introduced into the story. The trailer does not give away some of the larger “battle” sequences though. The trailer does capture the tone of the movie well.
This film does fill like its just a introduction film that has no real consequences for its characters. There isn’t any background or character development here. Also in the movie there are statements made of why they are doing things that simply don’t make any sense and are ignored 5 minutes later in the story.
I think Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson do a ok job given their characters don’t have any room to do much in the film. Samuel Jackson is the character with the most motivation for his actions in the movie, but even this is pretty slim.
All in all I didn’t hate the movie, but I also don’t have a reason to love this movie.
(10/10 is a perfect rating)
7/10 – Movie Rating: A great popcorn flick, but nothing more than that.
5/10 – Trailer Rating: The trailer gives away the basic plot and nothing really new is introduced into the story. The trailer does not give away some of the larger “battle” sequences though.
End Credit Scene? – Yes
